Although they might look different than their law enforcement equivalents, they share the same proven technology and are just as effective in stopping a threat in its tracks. Before reviewing the Bolt 2, it is best to provide a basic side-by-comparison of features and capabilities. In addition, I would like to highlight one important aspect of the device worth noting. The Bolt 2 is an effective, yet inconspicuous less-than-lethal energy weapon that packs the same knock-down power trusted by law enforcement, but built with civilian self-protection in mind. It has an effective range of 15 feet and can immobilize an attacker for 30-seconds. This next generation device, when paired with the Axon Protect app, can alert an emergency dispatch center when the device is fired.
What I like about this technology:
- Its reasonably small size and discreet design. With an effective range of 15 feet, it keeps distance between you and a threat.
- When paired with the Axon Protect app, the 911 Emergency Dispatch feature is very impressive. When fired, an emergency alert is sent via your mobile phone to a 24/7 dispatch service that immediately calls you. If you do not answer the phone, they quickly dispatch the police to the known location of your phone. If you answer the phone, the dispatch service will assess your situation, provide first-responders with your location and details of your threat, and offer you guidance.
- The integrated light and laser assisted targeting feature make it easy to use and highly effective. Aiming is as simple as placing the red dot from the laser on your target and squeezing the trigger. If you miss your target, you still have the stun gun feature as a backup.
- It can immobilize attackers for up to 30 seconds which provides an opportunity to lay the device down and find safety. If for someone reason you are not able to lay the device down and flee, you can continue to press the activation button to gain an additional cycle of 30-second immobilization, allowing for you to evaluate options.
- Law enforcement Tasers are designed to provide 5 seconds of immobilization with the goal of an officer gaining compliance over a suspect. An officer will generally not cycle their device more than 2-3 times … delivering up to 15 seconds of total immobilization. The 30-second cycle of the civilian equivalent is a VERY long cycle and rumored to be a very unpleasant experience if you are on the receiving end. So, in some respects, this device gives you capabilities beyond that of even its law enforcement equivalent.
- The Taser Safe Escape Replacement guarantee, which is offered on all their devices, is just another testament to the company’s commitment to personal protection.
