Today, we are profiling the Taser Pulse from Axon Industries.  In case you missed our first blog on Axon’s Taser Self-Defense business, civilian Tasers are surprisingly an unknown self-defense option for everyday citizens.  Although they might look different than their law enforcement equivalents, they share the same proven technology and are just as effective in stopping a threat in its tracks.   The Strikelight 2, Pulse, and Bolt 2 —represent a conscious effort to make advanced self-defense technology accessible to the civilian market.

TASER Pulse

The Rising Tide of Risk

Before reviewing the Pulse, it is best to provide a basic side-by-comparison of features and capabilities.  In addition, I would like to highlight one important aspect of the device worth noting.  Unlike the Strikelight 2 and Bolt 2 products, this product resembles a firearm and requires you use it differently than the other devices.  More simply stated, this device will be something you will want to conceal from the public and ONLY expose it during a self-defense situation.

TASER comparison chart showcasing the Pulse with the Strikelight 2 and Bolt 2

The Pulse is an effective, less-than-lethal energy weapon that packs the same knock-down power trusted by law enforcement but built with civilian protection in mind.  It has an effective range of 15 feet and can immobilize an attacker for 30-seconds.  Weighing in at just 8 ounces, this high-tech, intuitively designed device is revolutionizing the self-defense market.

What I like about this technology:

  • It is small, extremely light weight (8 ounces), and very easy to carry and conceal.  With an effective range of 15 feet, it keeps distance between you and a threat.
  • The integrated light and laser assisted targeting feature make it easy to use and highly effective.  Aiming is as simple as placing the red dot from the laser on your target and squeezing the trigger.  If you miss your target, you still have the stun gun feature as a backup.
  • With the neoprene soft carry sleeve, it can be placed in a pocket, purse, backpack, or other places for easy access.  In addition, there are several different types of inside or outside the waistband holsters.  In your home, in your yard, on a walk, in your purse, in your backpack or in the car …. pure portable protection.
  • It can immobilize attackers for up to 30 seconds which provides an opportunity to lay the device down and find safety.  If for someone reason you are not able to lay the device down and flee, you can continue to squeeze the trigger again to gain an additional cycle of 30-second immobilization, allowing for you to evaluate options.
  • Law enforcement Tasers are designed to provide 5 seconds of immobilization with the goal of an officer gaining compliance over a suspect.  An officer will generally not cycle their device more than 2-3 times … delivering up to 15 seconds of total immobilization.  The 30-second cycle of the civilian equivalent is a VERY long cycle and rumored to be a very unpleasant experience if you are on the receiving end.  So, in some respects, this device gives you capabilities beyond that of even its law enforcement equivalent.
  • The Taser Safe Escape Replacement guarantee, which is offered on all their devices, is just another testament to the company’s commitment to personal protection.  If you must ever use their devices in a self-defense situation, and are forced to flee and lose your device, they will replace it.  Simply provide a copy of a police report and they will replace the device, no questions asked.
  • Although you are looking at an MSRP of almost $400, this is one of the most advanced and effective less-than-lethal technology you can possess.  It’s been used by law enforcement, first responders and the military for decades and is a truly proven technology.  This civilian equivalent allows you to take your personal protection to new levels.
  • This product requires minimal training which can be found on the Axon website or taught by a local certified civilian Taser instructor.  It’s simple, intuitive, and easy to use.
